The GullenGamble Merino Stud was established in 1997 by Mark and Kym Kerin at their property “GullenGamble”, 50km South of Dubbo, NSW. The Kerin’s were early adaptors of ASBV’s, joining SheepGenetics MerinoSelect in 2004, eager to take advantage of new technology and better manage the genetic trends of the flock.

Through working closely with the late Dr Jim Watts the stud quickly moved away from the traditional merino type, breeding larger framed, plain-bodied sheep that were easy care with great doing ability. This breeding approach also resulted in fast growing, stylish white wools that were weatherproof and high yielding. GullenGamble quickly became well known for having the right balance between wool and meat.

In 2010 the poll stud was registered, and the Kerin’s began utilising DNA and genomics testing to further accelerate the breeding program. GullenGamble Poll rams were quiet achievers producing outstanding results in various trials and sire evaluations.

Mark and Kym’s retirement in 2021 saw the acquisition of the property and stud by their son Nathan and his wife Hannah and their family. Although passionate about merino breeding and production, stud operations did not fit into the business plan for the succeeding Kerin family and so the stud flock was offered for sale.

We thank the Kerin’s for their years of passionate dedication to their clients and the advancement of GullenGamble Poll Merinos!

In July 2021 the GullenGamble Poll stud was purchased in its entirety by the Edwards family of Wellington, NSW and the breeding program has continued. The flock was moved 30km East to “Westcourt”, Walmer NSW where it is now managed by Max Edwards, alongside his father Stewart and brother Hugh, with assistance from classer Austin Grace (A G Livestock Services) and Elders Studstock Specialist Andrew Miller.

Mark has continued to assist in an advisory role and Nathan and Hannah remain strong supporters at ram sales.

We now start an exciting new chapter, picking up from where the Kerin’s left off to further progress the performance and quality GullenGamble Poll Merinos are renowned for.
We look forward to assisting clients, both existing and new, to reach their breeding goals!
